And I did not happen to write down my inspiration for this one -- by some of the phrases, I'm thinking it was from the statutes of Matilda da Canossa (aka Matilda of Tuscany):
Wherefore, the Crown of the East is possessed of the singular and lawful authority to elevate to the nobility those of its subjects who have by their diverse and sundry acts demonstrated their loyalty, worth and virtue; and wherefore Carol of Owlsherste, sometimes called Celebriande, has made manifest such worth and virtue by her works as spinner, weaver, dyer, embroiderer and seamstress; therefore do We Lucan Rex et Jana Regina, by force of our words as set down herein, elevate the abovenamed Carol to the nobility and do award her such arms as are fit, right and proper for her to bear. So that this present charter remain and endure firm and unshaken, we have caused it to be inscribed on parchment with ink from the earth by our scribe, strengthened by the character of our signatures, and read aloud before witnesses. And We, Lucan and Jana, King and Queen, as above, together with our heirs and representatives of heirs, will defend from any man, forever, the validity of the abovesaid award. Signed by the hand of the King and the Queen upon the ____ of ____, at _______.
