A Challenge

To all you folks out there in LJ land who want to see a better training program for fencing marshals, I challenge you thusly:  Write something for me.

It doesn't have to be a lengthy article or analysis.  It can be an anecdote that illustrates a point.  It can be your own personal checklist for what you look for in authorizations.  All it has to be is (a) in writing; (b) in English and usable with minimal editing; and (c) constructive in some way.  No rants about what's wrong with the way we do things now.  (Note: "I perceive this problem and here is how I'd fix it" is not a rant.)

I am going to be doing the very same things myself - trying to commit to paper all of the knowledge and experience in my head.

I'm going to try enlist my good Sisters of St. Walburga, plus maybe a protegee/cadet or two, to assemble these writings together and make it available for those who want it.  Those who don't feel the need for anything else in writing can ignore it.

my number one rule for being a marshal: your job is to help people fence/fight/shoot safely, not be a hinderance to them fencing/fighting/shooting. If you are looking for reasons to fail someone, maybe you should take a step back and let someone else do the inspection/authorization. Thats not to say if you spot an error/potential hazard/unsafe situation, you should not put a stop to it. But instead of just putting a stop to it, try to offer a solution so that all involved can have a good time.
