I am simply content that, for once, the need for intelligence and clear thinking in a public official seems to have prevailed. A small blow has been struck against mediocrity.
As much as I dislike Justice Scalia's political views, I respect his intelligence and his writing ability. Smart people can be persuaded by other smart people. If Bush feels that he must pick a Justice who shares his viewpoints, at least do the country the service of picking one with a top-rate legal mind.
