I was supposed to work instead of going to 100 Minutes War.  The servers at the office had other ideas, however.  With the servers crashed and Griffyn sick in bed with a cold, I headed off to 100 Minutes War.

My fencing continued to be much of the suck.  I really hope this gets out of my system soon.  The downside to losing weight is that my timing and distance are now completely fracked, because my body now moves entirely differently than it did.  But, lacking other options, I decided I might as well try to have some silly fun splashing around in the suck - if I cannot fence well, maybe I can be amusing to myself and others.

Despite not fencing particularly well, I did have several fun fights.  I finally fought with Her Maj. [livejournal.com profile] oaken_glen and I traded the exact same shots with each other for a while - we both seem to be leaving our arms open.  Fenced with Lilia and Katya Gordon and tried to impart some small tibits of wisdom.  Fenced [livejournal.com profile] math5 's prize. Regrettably, I missed a chance for more than one pass with [livejournal.com profile] altariel_menel

Rather than going out to dinner, I headed home to my sickly one, who seems to be feeling better. We ordered Chinese (bad for the diet, good for the soul) and watched the original Night Stalker TV movie on DVD.

And now, off to do all the work I should have done yesterday. Hopefully, if I buckle down hard for the next few days, I can salvage the D&D game I was supposed to run on the day after Thanksgiving.

The original Night Stalker TV movie has aged pretty well. Although clearly set in the 1970s, it isn't a painful period piece. I was also shocked at (a) how young Darrin McGavin was and (b) that he had his shirt off for a long scene with his "cocktail waitress" girlfriend.

I crave finding the TV series on DVD - it scared the willies out of me as a kid.

Thanks for the tidbits! Now Maire and Ian have another avenue of attack to help get me off the suck train. :)

Now I am beginning to regret my slug-like staying home and missing the event. With my luck you will have worked out your timing problems before I can run you through :-).

I like your post title "No plan survives first contact with the enemy". It reminds me of a similar saying that I have often employed - No good plan survives first contact with the generals!

Yep, I go for that too. Eventually I might even get better :)

Ye Gads! Ok so until you started pushing my buttons I had not a chance-and even after I didn't have much of one, since as you said you stalked me and very well too I might add. So if that was you in a sucking mode I'm so glad that I can't remember fencing you when you were "on". It probably would have affected my fencing psyche for life-eeck!
However, I did learn a bit and I liked it. Plus what you showed me also answered part of the how do you see the holes question in my mind. So lots of wonderful stuff. Footwork drills are on the plan this week since ~S~ left the keys in the house and thus my gear is still in his car *pout*. Of course this implies I don't fall down from the sinus' issues.
But Many thanks for the fun fight and the stuff I learned.
Get rest when you can and Congrats on weight loss-while it may affect your fencing it still has to feel good!

Yes, sucking at fencing is a relative concept. I admit that I am basing my suck factor on a comparison of what I'm doing now versus what I know I *can* do.

However, many fencers have gone on to lead valuable, productive lives even after fencing me in my prime, so I doubt it would have scarred you all that much. :-)

I really like your attitude about 'the suck'. Do you mind if I splash around in the pool of the suck with you until tidbits of my fencing return - mostly timing (my distance is returning)?

Come on down! There's always more room in the suck pool (unfortunately)

yay!! *Sploosh!*

See if other people suck, I don't mind so much sucking because then I can suck with other people that I know have skill! :)
