The Stumpers Revealed
Dec. 18th, 2008 11:59 amGlory may he be, and blessed now is she
and those who sing the seven long verses
in honor of our Lady
This is the chorus to an Irish folk ballad called “The Seven Joys of Mary” or “An chéad shuáilce fuair an Mhaighdeon Bheannaithe”
You can hear the chorus sung here as track 3
Tydynges trew ther be cum new, sent frome the Trinite,
Be Gabriel to Nazaret, cite of Galile;
A clene mayden and pure virgyn thorow hyre humilite
Conceyvid the secund person in divinite
This is the opening verse of "Nowell, Nowell, Nowell (This is the salutation of Angel Gabriel)." Unfortunately, the CD I pulled this off of (NY Ensemble for Early Music, A Renaissance Christmas) seems to be out of print and I can't find a link for the tune.
