I'm feeling medieval again today -

Our steward hath provided this
In honor of the King of Bliss;
Which, on this day to be served is
In Reginensi atrio

Yep, it's The Boar's Head Carol

"Caput apre defero, redens laude domino".

"The Boar's Head, as I understand, is the rarest dish in all this land.
And thus bedecked with a gay garland, quod estes in convivio!"

Pardon any errors - going from memory on music I have not sung in 13 years.

"The Boar's Head Carol". I thought I quoted enough of the right verse to make it clear. :-)

One of my favorite little bits of knowledge, is that the fellow who first wrote down this song, also "wrote" a book on period table service. I have a copy of his book in the bookcase in my bedroom. :-)

I don't celebrate Christmas, and am remarkably weak on most of the songs. But the Carolingian Jongleurs taught me quite a few period ones. I probably shan't be able to play again in your annual meme. :-)
