Nest's Laurel Text
Jan. 17th, 2010 04:08 pmKayleigh said she was doing calligraphy based on a source from 1488. Keep it short, she said. Thus, from the Confirmation Roll, 3 Hen VII, 28th November 1488, we have:
Konrad Rex and Brenwen Regina, to all to whom these present letters shall come, greetings. Wherefore, certain notable and renowned Peers of the Realm have brought to Our Royal notice the value and quality of the gentle arts of calligraphy and illumination practiced by Our subject, Nest verch Tangwistel; and wherefore, we have been presented in solemn court with witnesses of good character and honorable estate attesting to the worth, skills, courtesy and exemplary virtue of the said Nest; and wherefore, having considered the case put before us concerning the disposition of the said Nest and most particularly whether the said Nest shall be elevated to the rank and station of a Peer of the Society; and, finding the evidence established to be agreeable to Our will, therefore, We do accept, approve, ratify and confirm the induction of the said Nest into the Order of the Laurel and do further invest and endow the said Nest with Arms by Letters Patent, to wit: Per pale embattled azure and Or, an arrow azure. In witness thereof these Our letters We have caused to be made patent this 16 January A.S. XLIV at 12th Night in Our Shire of Panther Vale.
For those not also on Kayleigh's LJ, you can see photos of the scroll itself here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kayleighmcwhyte/sets/72157623101025087/
Kayleigh, feel free to send a copy of the words onto Nest if she doesn't have them already.
