Brenwen's Laurel Scroll
Aug. 15th, 2010 11:47 amEdward the King and Marguerite the Queen, to all to whom the present letters shall come, greetings. The Crown’s Majesty having among its singular and lawful powers the right, prerogative and privilege to grant lands, tenements, fees and offices to those of Our servants who have brought renown to Our Kingdom, and of Our Goodness recalling to Our Remembrance the various and diverse talents displayed by Our subject Brenwen the Fair, and with the advice and assent of the Masters and Mistresses of the Order of the Laurel, be it now ordained, established and enacted that Brenwen the Fair be and hereby is invested and endowed with the privileges, appurtenances and insignia of the said Order of the Laurel in due and proper recognition of her achievement in matters of the arts, and be it further ordained, established and enacted that the said Brenwen shall hereafter style herself as a Mistress of the Laurel and shall bear upon her person the image and sign of a laurel wreath. That all should hereafter acknowledge the rights of the aforesaid Brenwen as herein established, stated and ordained, We have caused these letters to be drawn up and made patent and subscribed by Our hand on the 11th day of August, in the 45th year of the Society.
The source texts were various statutes of Henry VIII c. 1514-1516 (I couldn't find any good single source this time). Congratulations Brenwen! I'm so happy for you.
And a bonus text that I did to help out Khioniya with a last minute AoA:
Edward, King of the East, and Marguerite our Queen. So that those things, which have been piously and prudently disposed by us, not be changed by men in the course of time, but remain stable and strong perpetually, we make known to all in the present and the future, that that our servant Otto Gottlieb be and hereby is invested and endowed with and for all time awarded the following Arms: ___________________ In perpetual memory and inviolable confirmation of this our decree, we have had the present page written and fortified by the protection of our seals, with the added witness of our court of honest and upright men. Enacted upon the fields of Pennsic, in the 45th year of the Society.
Based upon 1222 statute of Otakar, king of the Bohemians, found in the Codex Diplomaticus et Epistolarius Regni Bohemiae, ed. Gustavus Friederich (Prague: 1912), 2.228-29, ep.238
