Edward's County scroll starts with the following Latin preamble:

In parliamento excellentissimorum principium ac dominorum Nostrum metuendissimorum domini Griffithi et dominae Aikaterniae, regis et reginae Orientalum illustrissimorum, tento apud Paludem Ferreum, die Saturini, .xxv. Septembris, anno socieatatis .xvl., coram prefatis supremis dominis nostris regibus ibidem personaliter sedentibus.

Some people have asked what the Latin says.  Roughly, it's this:

In the parliament of our most excellent princes and lords the most dear Gryffyth and Aikaterine, king and queen of the Easterners, held at Iron Bog on Saturday 25th September A.S. 45, in the presence of the aforesaid supreme lords our Crown sitting in person.

Alexandre Lerot d'Avigne helped me transform this (from the original document):

In parliamento excellentissimi principis ac domini nostri metuendissimi domini Jacobi quarti Dei gratia regis Scotorum illustrissimi, tento apud Edinburgh', in pretorio eiusdem, die Veneris xviio die mensis Octobris anno Domini millesimo quadringentesimo octuagesimo octavo, coram prefato supremo domino nostro rege ibidem personaliter sedente.

into the above.

Writing out the text in Latin really drove home for me why my English text always looks a little strange. There are so many more minums in Latin, not to mention all those awesome abbreviations. If it wouldn't drive everyone totally mad, I'd be tempted to do every text in Latin, just for the visual effect.

Hehe. If I get a scroll assignment for someone I think would appreciate it, I'll be sure to let you know.

We need Alexandre too, or someone else who is fluent in medieval Latin.
