Teaching at Pennsic
Apr. 15th, 2011 02:20 pmSo, assuming I can get time off for Pennsic (which should be much less of an issue now that my employers are no longer demons from the darkest depths of the abyss), I probably should teach something of the heraldic nature. Here's what I'm considering:
(1) Heraldry for Scribes: This has been popular in the East, but I'm not sure how well it would travel to other Kingdoms. I know Aethelmearc has an active scribal college that does original work. How relevant would it be to other Kingdoms?
(2) Adapting Medieval Legal Documents for SCA Scroll Texts: Again, really popular in the East, usable by Aethelmearc, but how many other Kingdoms don't use canned wording?
(3) Basic Gaelic Naming: This would be better taught by Mari or Effrick, but I can teach the basics in a user-friendly way.
(4) How to Pick an SCA Name: This would be a general use class on identifying good sources vs. bad sources, dispelling myths about what names are period (including some of my "period or not" stuff), and how to deal with the heraldic process.
(5) On Being A Local Herald: I've done this one before many times. It adapts pretty well across Kingdoms. But I find it rather dull to teach
(6) Something on voice heraldry. But, since I do this particular one every year at Noisemakers, I'm less inclined to do it at Pennsic.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Date: 2011-04-15 07:13 pm (UTC)I wonder if I should reach out as an old-used-up-herald. Do you know the person that has the position?
