"Machine Gun Preacher” is rated R (Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian). Profanities and atrocities mixed in with the piety.     Or, the history of organized religion to the present day.

“Killer Elite” is rated R (Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian). Bangs and splatter.

I generally tend to ignore movie reviews; it has been many years since I actually went to one. But at times I find the flippancy of reviewers to be distressing. Somehow I must wonder how long it has been since the reviewer of "Machine Gun Preacher" stepped inside a church.

The snarky comment on organized religion was mine, not the NY Times reviewer's. Or were you referring to something in the full-length review (which I did not read)?

My apologies, I had presumed it was something the Times reviewer had written. Had I understood it properly, my comment would have been different; please forgive me if I have offended.

Honest opinions never offend. And, in fact, it has been a long time since I was in a church for something other than a wedding or a funeral. Organized religion and I parted company some time ago, despite the best efforts of my Jesuit teachers.

Both sounds like remarkably mindless things.
