Jun. 4th, 2012 02:30 pmBoosting the signal, as requested:
> Would you like to engage in some fun and raise money for the royal travel
> fund?
>
> This flight of fancy idea turned into an actual fundraiser because too many
> Laurels and Pelicans said yes when asked if they'd want to go out and hit
> each other with boffers to raise money for the royal travel fund. Go
> figure.
>
> The fights will be grand melees - the winner is the order with the last
> person standing and it will be best two out of three. Boffer weapons will
> be provided to the participants. It will happen late Saturday afternoon at
> Glen Linn, after the fighting and before court. Sashes will be provided so
> people can tell the groups apart. Double peers can declare for either
> peerage, although if sides are uneven we may ask people to swap. The
> boffers will be foam, and people will be expected to take shots without
> debating calibration. No hitting from behind and no head shots. This is
> for fun and for the spectacle.
>
> How do we raise money by doing this? This is what was worked out:
> Participating members will be listed on a webpage.
> People can donate money to individuals so they can have weapons. What
> weapons you get depends on how much money you raise.
> The amount of money raised will be listed next to each individual and
> updated nightly so people can see how much you have.
> Money can be raised in person, sent by check or given via the webpage.
>
> The cost of weapons are as follows:
> $ 25 - dagger
> $ 50 - sword
> $ 75 - two sword or sword and shield
>
> Originally, we were leaning towards not letting chivalry on the field
> (unfair advantage) and it was suggested that they get recruited to cheerlead
> and fundraise for pompoms. In the end, it got too complicated. If a
> chivalry member has a pelican or laurel and wants to play, then they can.
>
> Going to Glen Linn and interested? I hope you are. We need a critical mass
> to make this work. If so, please send me an e-mail at the above address and
> spread the word to other laurels and pelicans. I expect the website to go
> up on this weekend (June 9th) and fundraising to end two weeks later on the
> 23rd so boffer weapons can be made. Come have some fun and help out the
> royal travel fund!
