Another two-fer

(1)  A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite

(2)  Then let us all rejoice, amain,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day,
Then let us all rejoice, amain,
On Christmas day in the morning

The answers are:

(1)  Do You Hear What I Hear?  (2)  I Saw Three Ships

We sang the first one in my chorus this year - an absolutely gorgeous arrangement. Let me see if I can find a video link to a good performance of that arrangement. (No, I can't: but this is a great group of singers, singing it outdoors, and conducted by the arranger. [1] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeKWg2vUgZ4))

The second - is that "I see three ships"? If so, first of all: how did I know that? Second of all, I recall the verse as "again" not "amain". :-)

(To really hear that chorus at its best, look for "Ambassadors of Harmony" on YouTube... They are the current International Barbershop Chorus champions.)

There's a great debate as to whether that word should be "again" or "amain" -- being who I am, I sided with the people who say it's "amain" from Middle English.

That is good to know. Learning is good.

I think it is a freaking Christmas Miracle that I could get two out of two. I'll take that. :-)

I'm reminded of the very old Saturday Night Live sketch where the Jewish guy was the only one who knew all the lyrics to "Good King Wenceslaus"

#1 - 'Do You Hear What I Hear'. Bing Crosby's version is the one true recorded version.

#2 - Living near the coast, I see three ships coming in rather often. :)

1. Do You Hear What I Hear? (That's probably not the title, is it?)

2. Pop Goes the Weasel. I am sure of this. : )
