Name That Christmas Tune, day 1

It's December, so you know what that means.   I have an indecent love of Christmas music in all of its forms, from ridiculous modern tunes running over Grandma with a reindeer to medieval music in various languages, to the most religious high church classics.   So, as in many years past, I will be posting every day between now and Christmas day one or more snippets from Christmas tunes and challenge you to ID them.  This year I'm going to try to do some Hannukah songs too.

No Googling until at least 24 hours after posting.  I'll provide the answers the next day, under a cut.

To kick off our Advent:

Raise, raise a song on high

The virgin sings her lullaby

Joy, joy for Christ is born

the Babe, the son of Mary

And the answer is

"What Child is This"

I didn't recognize the lyrics.

But, based on scansion and rhyme alone, I'm willing to place a bet on "What Child Is This"... Aka "Greensleeves By Any Other Means". :-)

PS I'm always searching for "good Hannukah songs". By "good" I mean it has some complexity and isn't just for children, and isn't in a language like Hebrew that most don't know...
