Getting today's entry in a bit late - the last 36 hours haven't exactly worked according to plan.  Anyway:

"Bring me flesh and bring me wine,
Bring me pine logs hither:
Thou and I will see him dine,
When we bear them thither."

And the obscure extra credit entry:

Of her, Emanuel, the Christ was born
In Bethlehem, all on a Christmas morn
And Christian folk throughout the world will ever say:
"Most highly favored lady," Gloria!

The first is Good King Wenceslas (sp?) - just listened to that.

Good King Wenceslas looked out,
On the feast of Stephen,
And the snow lay all about,
Deep and crisp and even.
Brightly shone the moon that night,
Though the frost was cruel.
Then a poor man came in sight,
Gathering winter fuel.

That second one sounds like Gabriel's Message*, but that can't be right.

* I have that song on my brain this week. I love the Sting version - just put it on my wishlist this week, after not hearing it for years.

Nice. It's actually a medieval carol that Sting found and recorded on one of the celebrity Christmas albums for charity back in the 1980s. I figured if anyone was going to recognize it, it was going to be because of that album.

NPR used to play it every December when I worked in DC (mid to late 90s). I actually emailed them to ask for the name of the song. Still have their reply somewhere, but I just googled Sting's discography the other week to find it again.
