Advent follies, day 7
Dec. 8th, 2006 03:44 amToday's carol quiz:
This Star drew nigh to the North West;
O'er Bethlehem it took it's rest.
And there it did both stop and stay,
Right over the place where Jesus lay.
Today's obscure carol quiz, in Middle English, even:
Tydynges trew ther be cum new, sent frome the Trinite,
Be Gabriel to Nazaret, cite of Galile;
A clene mayden and pure virgyn thorow hyre humilite
Conceyvid the secund person in divinite.
For those keeping score at home, I have managed to stump the Peanut Gallery exactly once so far. This proves either that you are all as geeky as I am, or that I'm not making these nearly hard enough. :-)
Edited to add: Looks like I have stumped folks on the second one. Woo hoo!
It is Nowell, Nowell, a 15th cen. carol. The chorus is "Nowell, Nowell, this is the saluctacion off the aungell Gabriell"
