From Dahlia Lithwick at Slate magazine:  "[T]he demand for lawyers is increasing, and the supply wants their weekends back."  http://www.slate.com/id/2161454/

The proletariat have nothing to lose but their chains.  :-)

Here here. Oh wait, I'm not a lawyer. Hmmm. I still want my weekends back. Or some sense of consideration or thanks from my employer that I give so much.

When I was promoted to manager, my DBA position was not backfilled. So I assumed the work of both jobs. When they fired the Unix Admin, I as asked to just suck it up. At the time of them firing the unix admin, they fired the VP in charge of Security and Disaster Recovery. Her work was taken on by a director, who became my new manager. When he quit, I took on his responsibilities as well. My salary changed only when I became a manager. I do work that was once the responsibility of a VP in our company, and she was inept which is why she was fired. But I am not even paid or have the title of Director.

I wonder some mornings what the point is to even wake up.

You know, I have this perfectly good AS/400 programmer sitting around my house doing little or nothing. I'll be glad to lend him out to help for an appropriate fee.

yeah, I spoke with that AS/400 programmer the other day, and reminded him that he really should get me a copy of his resume. From the sounds of it, we will be migrating a lot of systems to JD Edwards XE on the 400. I know they don't plan on hiring new staff, but the probably will bring on consultants. I'm more then happy to put in a good word for Grif to help get him going again, for whatever my good word is worth.

delBrook said he had a unix admin, if that would help me, but I've been told they tried to budget for a new unix admin for this year and it was pulled from the budget.

"Billable hours are the six-minute increments by which lawyers account for their time" transliterated in my head to "Melee rounds are the six-second increments by which gamers account for their time."
